State of Smart Governance: States/UTs

The pervasive theme this year was clearly that of 'Maximum Governance, Minimum Government' and the jury was happy to learn that all the states, which had sent in their nominations, stood firmly behind this talisman. The states sent in their entries under a variety of classifications. These were Health, Finance, e-Governance, Transport, Agriculture & Rural Development, Governance, Municipalities and Education.

Policy for Adoption of OSS: Industry & Academia, wake up

I appreciate that the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) has announced the "Policy on Adoption of Open Source Software for Government of India" and also brought out the policy framework for rapid and effective adoption.

Hamlet, Haider and National Informatics Centre (NIC)

To be or not to be is a question being posed in context of NIC for long. When Secretary, DeitY says that NIC does not have even a fraction of capacity to implement 'Digital India' as envisaged by the Prime Minister, the statement can either be read as a criticism of NIC or a prelude to unleashing an NIC invigoration plan this may help NIC to evolve as a formidable information systems organisation that any country would be proud of.

Time to start VRS with Planning Commission

There has been lull at the Yojana Bhawan since the Modi government was sworn into office on the 26th of May. Nearly 1,200 people, who are employed at the Planning Commission and its attached offices, have hardly any productive work.
